Women’s golf takes its clubs to the Midwest

SJSU’s women’s golf team had a solid showing at the Minnesota Invitational on September 9th and 10th despite falling just short of a victory.

On day one of the invite, SJSU ended up tied for third place with Virginia Tech with a score of three-over par at 291.

In the first round of the tournament Natasha Andrea Oon shot at three-under 69, and was three-under par for the last nine holes. She also made four birdies for that round. Freshman Kajsa Arwefjall shot an even-par at 72 and tied fort thirteenth place. Antonia Malate shot a two-over 74 and tied for 29th place. Maddie white tied for 43rd at four-over 76. Ysabel Tran tied for 52nd at five over 77.

Unfortunately, there were weather delays that led the tournament to go onto Tuesday. Lightning struck three times during the matches on Monday leading to a cancellation for the rest of the matches that day. Due to the roll over day, the tournament was shortened to only 36 holes.

Following the first day of the tournament, the spartans came back with intensity, and it all started with Natasha Andrea Oon’s birthday luck. Oon finished second with an eight-under 136.

Antonia Malate tied for 35th at five-over 149. Ysabel Tran finished tied at 46th at seven-over 151. Maddie White tied for 59th at nine-over 153.

Though there were obstacles against the spartans due to weather delays, they were able to maintain consistency allowing them to hold and finish as the third place seed on day two of the invitational.
