SJSU football settles 2024 non-conference game with USC

The San Jose State football team will make its fifth ever visit to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to face the USC Trojans, as announced by SJSU athletics director Marie Tuite Friday afternoon.

The non-conference game is slated for Sept. 7, 2024 and will be 15 years and two days apart from the last time both teams met in Los Angeles — a 56-3 thumping by the Trojans.

Other square offs include a 45-7 USC win on Sept. 9, 1995 — the first ever game between both squads, a 34-24 game in 2000 and a 21-10 final in 2001, both Trojan victories. In every meeting except the 2001 game, USC was ranked a top-10 team in the nation.

For the Spartans, it is the first non-league game they have added to their 2024 bubble. A home game against Bay Area foe UC Berkeley highlights the 2023 out-of-conference schedule so far, and a trip to the University of South Florida stands out in the 2025 non-conference ballot.

Pending the addition of another, it will be the first time since 2011 that the Spartans will play a football game in Los Angeles when they took home a 27-17 defeat from the Rose Bowl.

Taking a look at what’s in front for the SJSU program, it’s now 48 moons away from its season opener versus the University of Northern Colorado and just 19 away from the start of camp.
