San Jose State women’s water polo dropped its final game against Arizona State, 18-12 Sunday afternoon at Avery Aquatic Center for the last day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships.

The Spartans (10-15, 2-4 MPSF) ended their season with a sixth-place finish at the championships.

Two minutes into play, freshman utility player Olga Descalzi Portell shot a goal straight to the net on a power play assisted by sophomore driver Lili Urvari.

The Sun Devils (14-12, 1-5 MPSF) were able to get on the scoreboard with the help of freshman attacker Lieke Rogge just seconds after SJSU’s first goal.

On an even-strength play, Spartan sophomore 2-meter defender Tyanna Supreme struck the net hard with assistance from junior driver Sierra Painter.

Freshman 2-meter defender Matilda Moore successfully put up a goal for SJSU, but it wasn’t enough as ASU led by three goals at the end of the first quarter.

Two more goals were scored for the team with the help from SJSU sophomore’s Natalie Hosmer and Riley Agerbeek both on even-strength plays.

Descalzi Portell tossed in another strong goal for the team on a power play once again to close out the second quarter.

Rogge was on a goal-scoring roll and was able to put in four more for ASU to remain ahead for the entirety of the third quarter.

For the final quarter, Urvari, Agerbeek and Moore overtook ASU having possession of the ball and racked up goals for SJSU.

The Sun Devils Rogge and her sister junior defender Bente Rogge ended the game with a five-goal lead.

Although the team faced a tough 18-12 loss, Descalzi Portell and Moore victoriously had hat tricks to conclude their first collegiate season.
