Losing streak continues in the bayou for baseball

The Spartans (18-24) dropped game one 3-2 in the weekend series against Nicholls State (21-21) continuing their eight game losing streak.

San Jose State was not able to create runs through their base running, leaving seven runners on the bags in the game.

Both teams left lots of runners on the bases, but Nicholls State was able to capitalize off their eight hits.

Senior Andrew Mitchel had an average day on the mound, giving up two earned runs off of four hits and walked four batters.

Although he was able to strike out fiver batters, it wasn’t enough to secure a win.

On offense, freshman James Shimashita and junior Blake Berry did their part in playing catch up to Nicholls State.

Shimashita got the Spartans on the scoreboard in the fifth inning with a single to center field bringing in sophomore Santiago Cantu.

Blake Berry would then score the Spartans final run of the game with a two out homerun that was blasted to right field.

Nicholls State was more active on offense and created more opportunities for them to score, leading to yet another loss for San Jose State.

The Spartans will look to end their eight-game losing streak tomorrow in game two of this series. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
