San Jose State baseball (18-23,12-9 MW) fell to No. 3 Stanford 15-7 in a Cardinal slugfest Tuesday night .

“I think offensively we did enough right,” said head coach Brad Sanfilippo. “We were able to continue to score throughout the game, so I thought we did a pretty good job.”

The Spartans took an early lead in the top of the first inning when junior infielder Blake Berry hit a double to right field bringing in senior infielder Aaron Pleschner.

In the top of the third, junior infielder Troy Viola hit a moon shot to left field for his second home run of the season, plating freshman left fielder James Shimashita and Pleschner.

The Cardinal snagged the lead in the bottom of the third inning when junior infielder Andrew Daschbach answered with a three-run homer tying the game at 4-4.

Senior outfielder Brandon Wulff played the long ball and added more runs to the scoreboard to give Stanford a 9-4 lead.

Cardinal freshman pitcher Alex Williams took home the win after allowing, eight hits and six runs.

SJSU struggled on the defensive end and had seven different pitchers take the mound throughout the game.

Spartan freshman Ben Polack allowed three hits, two of which went out of the yard and struck out three.

“We have a lot of confidence in ourselves and there are a lot of positives today, the offense being one of them,” Pleschner said. “Up and down the line we got production from everybody.”

SJSU will travel to Thibodaux, LA to play against Nicholls State for a three game series. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. on Friday.
