After leading 13 other schools in the first two days, San Jose State men’s golf finished third in the 73rd Western Intercollegiate.

Junior Sean Yu thrived as the tournament received full coverage on the Golf Channel.

In the best performance of his career, Yu was close in capturing the top spot for the weekend. He finished second to Stanford’s Isaiah Salinda, who led his team to first place.

Yu ended up losing on the fifth hole of sudden death.

Senior Kevin Velo started off strong with a 69 and 66 in the first two days. He would contribute to the Spartans success and concluded the weekend in 17th place with a 212.

Sophomore Bryce Wortman helped the team play catch up with a 66 on the last day and a 215 for the tournament. He would place 33rd overall.

The Spartans are back to performing just as well as they have been all year.

This outstanding finish comes at a perfect time as SJSU will travel to Tucson to compete in the Mountain West Championship that runs from April 26 to April 28.
