Women’s golf ends season fourth in conference

San Jose State’s women’s golf participated in the 2019 Mountain West Championship Monday through Wednesday in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

The Spartans started strong shooting 299 with a four-shot lead over San Diego State at 303 on Monday. Freshman Natasha Andrea Oon ended the day in second place individually with an even-par 72.

She made 13 pars during her round, making her one of the five players on the field to do that.

Senior Abegail Arevalo and freshman Antonia Malate both shot a two-over 74, putting them both at fifth place. The team has a four-shot lead at the end of the first round.

The Spartans trailed the Aztecs by nine points with a total of 607 after the second round. However, Oon continued to have the lead in the individual standings at a two-over 146. She made three birdies and 10 pars to conclude her second day with a two-over 74.

The Spartans finished in fourth place. Oon tied for second place at three-over 219 by two birdies and 13 pars at the end of the three days.

SJSU is currently waiting to know if selected for the NCAA Regionals. It will go live on the Golf Channel on Wednesday, April 24 from 2:30-4 p.m. PT. The Regionals are set to play on May 6-8.
