Tennis sweeps injury-riddeled Hornets

San Jose State women’s tennis triumphed over the Sacramento State Hornets 4-0 in a non-conference dual match wednesday afternoon at the Sacramento Tennis Courts.

The Spartans (9-7) earned the doubles point with dual partners senior Miyo Kobayashi and freshman Alba Pedrero Galindo winning their match 6-2, earning one point for SJSU.

The Hornets (7-13) had three injured players sit out day’s match, handing SJSU doubles pairs junior Tamara Culibrk and sophomore Klara Milojkovic a victory by fault.

Sophomore’s Savannah Sendar and Laura Malsert went unfinished 5-1 in their first set against Hornet senior Sofi Wicker and freshman Jayden Nielsen.

Winning in two straight sets 6-3, 7-5, Kobayashi was able to hold off Sac freshman Jenna Dorian.

This was the only completed singles match of the day.

Three singles matches went unfinished — Culibrk finished at the beginning of the third set. Sendar and Pedrero Galindo ended their matches in their second sets.

Having an advantage with more players, SJSU jumped ahead in singles matches adding three points for the Spartans.   

SJSU came out on top, sweeping the Hornets 4-0.

Next up, SJSU will take on the Nevada Wolf Pack for a Mountain West conference match Saturday afternoon at the McArthur Tennis Center.
