Women’s hoops heads to Sin City to clash with Rebels

After losing its last meeting against UNLV (8-15, 6-6 MWC), San Jose State women’s basketball (2-20, 1-10 MWC) will look for a different outcome in Cox Pavilion Saturday.

Since the team is on a three-game losing streak, the Spartans are going to need to step up their game if they want to beat the Lady Rebels this time around.

SJSU will need to watch out for senior foward/center Katie Powell, who stands 6-foot-4 and towers over most of the Spartans.

Powell has put up good numbers this season and leads her team in scoring (14.5 points per game), rebounds (6.8) and blocks (0.9).

SJSU will have to prevent Powell from getting close to the basket and be more aggressive with successfully scoring 3-pointers if they want a shot at winning this game.

UNLV records an 1-11 record when allowing its opponent 60 points a game. It’ll be crucial for the Spartans to make shots and score at every chance given.

Freshman guard Raziya Potter leads the team with 9.3 PPG, followed by Cydni Lewis at 8.7.

The Lady Rebels will be looking to sweep the Spartans for the second straight season.

Tip off is schedule for 3 p.m.
