Despite outscoring the University of New Mexico 39-24 in the second half, San Jose State dropped its third straight game, 79-60.

SJSU (2-20, 1-10 MW) has now lost 17 of its last 18 overall.

The first half was a slow start for the Spartans and the Lobos (20-3, 10-2 MW) were able to push right past them.

The Lobos finished the final 6:30 of the first half on a 19-2 run. They stomped SJSU 27-7 in the second quarter alone and had the 48-21 advantage at the break.

“Turnovers killed us offensively,” said head coach Jamie Craighead.

UNM was able to answer off 26 takeaways from SJSU that led to multiple second chances.

Janisa Nunn and Aisia Robertson couldn’t be stopped. The pair scored a combined 36 points and collected 22 rebounds.

Entering the second half, Craighead said she tried to get her team to stop Nunn from high-post. However, her control and quickness on the court couldn’t be stop by the Spartans’ defense.

“She [Nunn] doesn’t drop the ball,” said Mikaylah Wilson.

The sophomore forward recorded her second double-double in the last three games with 14 points and a career-high 12 boards.

The Spartans head to Sin City to play UNLV on Saturday.
