Two meets down and women’s gymnastics continues to top Mountain Pacific Sports Federation competition.

Snatching multiple team and personal bests coupled with first place finishes in the vault, beam and floor at Friday’s Utah-State Tri-Meet, the Spartans have started off the season running.

After finishing the NorCal classic with a 194.475 last week, the program’s best season opening score, the team beat out conference competitors UC Davis and Sacramento State and shut down the Hornets again at the USU Tri-Meet.

The Spartans’ 194.275 finish Friday stacked them second behind Utah State (2-1, 0-0 Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference) and above Sacramento State for the second time in a row.

As a team, the Spartans placed first in the vault (48.850) and beam (48.775) and fell 0.05 short of first on the floor. The team struggled most on the bars and finished last in the event.

Every individual first place win marked career-bests for SJSU gymnasts. Junior Ellie Pascoe-Long took home the top title on the vault with a 9.825 and tied for first on the floor (9.850) earning another career-high.

Similarly, junior Stephanie Relova’s career-best 9.875 beam performance was the highest beam score of the night, and senior all-around gymnast Kaitlin Won tied her career-best 9.850 beam score to land second.

Won placed first in the all-around with a score of 39.075 while sophomore Taylor Chan finished third with 38.700.

The team will host its first home meet of the season Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. as it faces Sacramento State for the third time this season.
