Spartans suffer their second straight loss

Following the close loss to the University of San Francisco, the Spartans (2-7)  were taken down 76-59 by Cal State Northridge (3-6).

The Matadors posted a remarkable 55-22 rebounding advantage over the Spartans, 16 of which were offensive rebounds.

Free throws were a difference in this game, as the Spartans shot 13-30 for a 43.3 percentage from the line compared to the Matadors 65 percent on 13-20 shooting.

The Spartans did not have an answer for the Matadors’ top-scorer Channon Fluker, who posted a game-high 25 points and 16 rebounds in the contest.

Freshman guard Danae Marquez was the only Spartan to score in double-digits with a career-high 11 points.

Marquez, for the first time in her career, has posted consecutive games in which she has scored in double digits.

SJSU trailed the game by 29 points, but were able to end the game strongly and only allow 9 points in the final quarter.

The 17-point loss is the Spartans second biggest margin of defeat on the season.

The Spartans will head on the road to face the No. 19 ranked Oregon State Beavers on Dec. 10

This will be the second time this season the Spartans face off against a nationally-ranked opponent.
