San Jose State’s swimming and diving team showed strong performances this weekend at both the Bearcat Invitational in Cincinnati and the Northern Arizona Lumberjack Invitational in Flagstaff. In Ohio, women’s swimming set new pool records while three divers in Arizona placed in the top 10 at the meet.

For swimming, the Spartans placed second overall with a score of 724.5, finishing only behind Cincinnati’s score of 1079. SJSU won the 200 and 400 medley relays along with wins by seniors Colleen Humel in the 100 and 200 back, Taylor Lehr in the 100 free and Brenna Bushey in the 100 butterfly.

In three days, SJSU set several pool records, with Humel being included in four of them. She was a part of the first record set on day one — the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:42.35, ranking fifth all-time in school history.

On the final day, Humel broke the 200 backstroke pool record while Lehr etched her name in the record books as she placed third in the 200 individual medley with a 2:04.33 time, placing her eighth on the all-time SJSU list.

While the team came in second overall in the five-school meet, it still broke some records and performed at a high level.

In Arizona, the Spartans also put in a strong effort on the diving boards. Senior Cari Reiswig led SJSU per usual, placing ninth in the 1-meter and 11th in the 3-meter.

For the 10-meter platform, three Spartans finished in the top 10. Senior Kylie Fonseca placed fifth will a career-best score of 218.10, while sophomore Natasha Sondeno placed eighth and Reiswig placed ninth. Junior Eri Tamada also finished in 20th with her career-best of 175.40.

The team has a week off before heading to Columbus for the U.S. Winter Nationals from Nov. 29-Dec. 2.
