Women’s basketball returns home hoping for a win

By Andrew Talamantes (@DrewTooSavvy):

Coming off their second worst loss in school history, San Jose State will look to bounce back in a much more winnable game against CSU Bakersfield.

After going 15-14 last season, the Roadrunners (1-1)  are coming off a win Tuesday night against Fresno Pacific 74-63.

Expect senior guard Myzhanique Ladd to play a bigger role after being held to 11 points, all of which she scored in the first quarter. She also had just three assists.

Another player to keep an eye out for is freshman guard Megan Anderson who managed to scored 11 points as well, however in only 11 minutes of playing time.

Shooting may be a concern for this young Spartans team, who shot under 35 percent from the field last game.

The last time these two teams played was two years ago and it shaped out to be a great game.

In Bakersfield, the Spartans lost by just one bucket in overtime, 90-88, with about 3,500 people in attendance.

Although most of the current roster were still in high school, SJSU head coach Jamie Craighead was someone who was there to witness that game that surely left a bitter taste in her mouth.

One player SJSU might have to watch out for is junior forward Aja Williams. She averaged almost 12 points a game last year and scored a career high 35 points in blowout loss to UC Berkeley.

Also, junior forward Malaysia McHenry who led her team in scoring last game with 14 points and 7 rebounds is someone the Spartans will have to keep in check.

The game will tip off inside the Event Center at 7 p.m.
