Spartans set sights on final road win before senior day

By Taylor Lupetti (@tayclupetti):

The Spartans (17-10, 9-7) are heading on the road for the final time this season to take on Boise State (15-13, 8-8 MW) before playing at home again on Saturday against Utah State (15-13, 7-9 MW).

After splitting the weekend with Wyoming and No. 21 Colorado State and upsetting the Rams’ undefeated conference play season, the Spartans are back to finish their last two weeks of their season.

This is the first time the Spartans have faced the Broncos this season. Last year, SJSU fell to Boise State both of the times they played.

Following its match against the Broncos, SJSU returns to Spartan Gym for the first matchup against the Aggies this season as well.

Saturday’s game is also senior night for the four seniors the team will be losing after the season.  Breann Robinson (setter), Nandyala Gama (middle blocker), Jamie Hirai (libero) and Summer Avery (outside hitter) will be honored in the night’s events to commemorate their time on the team.

Boise State is going to be looking to extend its two-match winning streak when San Jose State comes to visit.

After pulling a win against Air Force last Saturday, the Aggies are going to be hopeful to keep the momentum going.

One of the players leading the Spartans this weekend is junior libero Luiza Andrade.  After getting recognized for the second time this season as the “Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week,” Andrade will be coming to the court, as always, to help her team.

The away game against the Broncos begins today at 6:30 p.m. Saturday’s senior night will take place at 2 p.m.
