Reiswig awarded conference honors

On Tuesday, the Mountain West Conference voters named San Jose State’s Cari Reiswig the conference Diver of the Week following a dominant performance in the team’s double dual meet in Santa Cruz on Dec 3.

The junior, who already owned the Spartans record on the 1-meter springboard, crushed her 2015 personal and school record of 301.75 by scoring over 8 points higher at 309.80 and placing first. She also finished in third on the 3-meter springboard, scoring 263.30 points.

“It’s just a fun meet because it’s small so it’s more relaxed than most meets and it’s easier to  focus and relax,” Reiswig said after the event.

For Reiswig, the accolade is the third of her record-setting career, the first since her freshman year when she was honored twice.

“We’re thrilled with Cari receiving Mountain West Diver of the Week honors. It’s well-deserved. She’s done a great job for us in the pool and the classroom,” said Spartans’ women’s swimming and diving head coach Sage Hopkins.

The 309.80 was obviously her strongest showing in the 1-meter dive this season, while her best 3-meter showing this year came at the Chick-Fil-A Invitational in early October.

With the strong results in just the second competition of the year, Reiswig has already cemented her spot in the 2017 NCAA Zone E Diving Championships which will take place from March 6th to the 11th in Northern Arizona.

Placing well in the Zones would put Reiswig another step towards the ultimate goal of qualifying for the National Championships in Indiana.
