Men’s soccer tops Air Force; advances to WAC finals.

By James Kim (@Jdkim38):

San Jose State defeated the top-seeded and No.12 ranked Air Force in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament semi-final round. It was the first loss all season for the Falcons.

The only goal scored was by senior forward Jeremy Romero, who headed the ball across the front of the net and over the opposing goalkeeper off a free kick from junior defender Andy Rios near the center circle. The goal was scored in the 72nd minute of the game.

The game would was undoubtedly an aggressive one, albeit with fewer fouls than the Spartans quarterfinal round.Several free kicks would become the most opportunistic in regards to the game played for SJSU.

The final minutes of the game would include three crosses by the desperate Falcons in a final scoring attempt to tie the game but to no avail.

When the team matched up in the regular season, it was Air Force who got the better of San Jose State winning 4-0.

Seattle (13-3-3, 6-1-3 WAC) will play UNLV (11-9-0, 7-3-0 WAC) in the other semi-final round.

The Spartans will play one of those two teams in the championship game.

The WAC Tournament Championship game will be on Nov. 12th, at 1 p.m. on the UNLV soccer field.

With one more win, SJSU would not only win the conference tournament, but clinch an automatic birth into the NCAA Tournament.
