Women’s basketball gets going with exhibition

The San Jose State women’s basketball team takes on the Stanislaus State Warriors today for its one and only tune-up game before some daunting early-season matchups.

While just an exhibition, the rotations SJSU head coach Jamie Craighead rolls along with minutes assigned will be telling for what she has in mind for the regular season.  There are minutes up for grabs and that’s unquestionable.

Stanislaus State, member of Division II’s California Collegiate Athletic Association, went 16-15 last season and was knocked out of the conference tournament.

The Warriors too lost several top players, including their top three scorers from last season, so it’s clear much of their offense will run through 6 foot 3 inch center Erika Larsen. She finished fourth on the team in scoring last season along with being one of the team’s best rebounders.

As for the Spartans, seniors Myzhanique Ladd, Hallie Gennett and sophomore Taylor Turney’s starting spots are (pretty much) set, but there is a lot to play for among the rest of the young squad.

With just one exhibition game compared the two from the men’s side, Craighead and her staff will surely cherish the minutes the team gets and to try some different things out.

The game is scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m.
