Women’s swimming storms into Santa Cruz and sweeps meet

By Mohamed Bafakih (@Moe_Fresco):

In its first dual meet of the season, the San Jose State women’s swimming team swept UC Santa Cruz in each of the 16 events Saturday morning at the UCSC Aquatics Center.

The Spartans got a much needed boost from senior Taylor Lehr coming off of a tough two-day Pacific Invitational on Oct. 27-28 in Stockton in which they finished second out of four teams on day one and last on day two.

Lehr picked up two individual event wins and also helped SJSU to two relay victories. She finished first in the 200-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle, while helping the 200-yard medley relay A team and 400-yard freestyle relay B team to first-place finishes.

The 200-yard medley relay A team included Gabby Heng, Shona Spikes and Jacqueline Nisson. SJSU’s B and C teams finished second and third in the same event, with UCSC rounding out the next four finishes.

The 400-yard freestyle relay B team for SJSU included Katrina Slivkoff, Katie McIntee and Gillian Logan.

Sophomores Jamie Dodd and Jenna Lloyd also had strong showings in the meet. Dodd finished first in the 200-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle while Lloyd took first in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke.

The Spartans will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to compete in the Bearcat Invitational from Nov. 16-18.
