Women’s soccer season finale

Fresh off clinching the Mountain West conference title, the SJSU women’s soccer looks to finish conference play on a high note with Sunday’s season finale.

The San Jose state women’s soccer team is 8-1-1 in conference play and looks to extend its five-game win streak as they host Fresno State in their last regular season game before heading to Las Vegas for the conference tournament.

The Spartans will match up against a Bulldogs team that is now fifth in the MW after winning four straight to extend their record to 5-3-2 in conference play.

With the MW title already clinched, the Spartans could use this match as an opportunity to give their starters some rest before the conference tournament.

However, SJSU can play spoiler for the Bulldogs who are currently neck and neck with Air Force in the standings.

Sophomore forward Julia Glasser, who leads her team with 15 goals on the season, will look to keep her Bulldogs fighting hopes alive against a thriving Spartan team.

Another valuable piece of Fresno State’s offense is senior forward Myra Delgadillo, who also leads the team, but in assists mostly going to Glasser.

The Bulldogs last four games have been won by convincing margins as they have outscored their opponents 10-3 throughout the stretch.

The Spartans on the other hand, have never looked better as they’ve outscored their opponents in their last five games by twice as much,12-6.

Throughout the win streak, SJSU’s ability to close games has been impressive. In three out of the five games, SJSU has managed to execute in the second period to come out with the wins.

With the conference title on lock already, the Spartans are focused on playing rival Fresno State and celebrating their seniors on senior day.

Last year, Fresno State defeated SJSU on their senior day. But with six seniors on the roster and an ongoing five-game win streak, don’t expect the Spartans to let up on the gas any time soon.
