By James Kim (@Jdkim38):

The Spartans finished second behind host team UNLV Rebels, in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown yesterday. SJSU maintained its second place position from the previous day.

It was played on the Boulder Creek golf course, a 27-hole course.

From October 22-24, the team competed in three rounds against numerous teams from around the nation, seventeen in total.

The Rebels scored 847 through at the end of the competition, while the Spartans scored 857. The third place University of Missouri finished two strokes over the Spartans at 859.

Senior Elizabeth Schultz scored 4-under par for the tournament, tying her for sixth place, while junior Alexandra Cooper scored 3-under par for the tournament, tying her for ninth. Junior Ysabel Tran tied for 16th place even at par.

The best score of the tournament was 16-under par, by UNLV’s Elizabeth Prior, shooting 10 shots better than the runner up.

Schultz scored -5 on the first day of the competition, and the team scored +13 as a team in the final round. The majority of the Spartans played better on the front nine holes then the back in each round.

It’s notable that a hole-in-one was made by Brooke Pierson, from South Dakota State.

The Spartans’ next competition will be on Feb. 26-27, at the Bruin Wave Invitational, in San Luis Obispo, CA.
