With heavy legs after a double overtime game at Utah Valley on Friday, the San Jose State men’s soccer team lost 1-0 to a rested 20-ranked Seattle University squad Sunday afternoon in Seattle.

At the latter end of a five-game homestand, the defending Western Athletic Conference champion Redhawks (8-2 overall, 2-0 WAC) got on the board 30 minutes into a tightly-contested and chippy conference matchup.

Alex Roldan cleaned up one of SU’s 10 first-half shots to get the team up ahead before the break.

The Spartans (2-7-1, 0-1-1 WAC) took just three shots on the game, with two of them coming in the opening half.

Stemming from a physical battle from both teams in the final 23 minutes of the game, a yellow card was issued to the Redhawks’ Tyler John in the 87 minute.

Goalkeeper Josh Adachi finished with three saves to pick up the win for SU while SJSU’s Alex Claws had four. SU finished with 14 shots with six of them on goal.

After two games on the road, which head coach Simon Tobin expected to be a “rough start” to WAC play, the Spartans remain winless as they return home to face UNLV on Friday.

The Rebels finished fourth last year in the conference, making it another tough test for Tobin and company.
