Volleyball takes down Air Force in five sets

The women’s volleyball team got their first conference win of the season when they took down Air Force Falcons 3-2 in Colorado.

It was the second Mountain West conference play game for both the Spartans and the Falcons. SJSU (9-4) is now 1-1 in conference matches unlike 0-2 Air Force (7-9).

The Spartans won the first of the five-set match 25-21.  The wins alternated as the Falcons won the second and fourth sets 25-23, 25-23 and the Spartans won the third and then the decisive fifth sets 25-20, 15-7.   

Junior outside hitter Giulia Gavio recorded her fifth double-double of the season leading her team with 17 kills and 11 digs in the match.  

Behind Gavio in kills was sophomore Fernanda Vido who pushed her season total from 164 to 177 the match.  

Recording the highest number of digs in the match was junior libero Luiza Andrade who had 15 of the team’s 45.

Falcons’ junior middle blocker Abigail Miksch led her team with 19 of the 55 kills.

While Air Force ended the match leading in kills (55 to SJSU’s 50)  and digs (52 to SJSU’s 45), it also led in errors for the game as SJSU had 22 errors while Air Force had 38.  
The Spartans will continue to play on the road to San Diego this Thursday where they will play the SDSU Aztecs at 6 p.m.
