Four things to know for Saturday’s conference opener

  1. Silicon Valley’ing’

This weekend’s game will be the first time a San Jose State (1-3) football game will be broadcasted on Facebook. Head Coach Brent Brennan said in Monday’s press conference that he sees the logic behind the move. “Being in the heart of Silicon Valley, it makes sense to me that we are in the forefront of doing something different beyond network TV,” Brennan said.

  1. An Aggie Connection

Utah State (1-2), the alma mater of linebacker coach Bojay Filimoeatu, will visit CEFCU Stadium on Saturday. Filimoeatu played the 2011 and 2012 seasons with the Aggies, where he started all 26 games, totaling 126 tackles, 20 tackles for loss and eight sacks.

  1. Six-Game Skid

It’s flown a little under the radar, but SJSU hasn’t come out on top against Utah State in its last six games. Its most recent victory versus the Aggies came back in 2008, when the Spartans were led by quarterback Kyle Reed.

  1. Expect a Close One

The last two games for the Spartans have been anything but close, but that will change this weekend. Although ESPN’s power index is giving the Spartans just a 38 percent chance at upsetting the Aggies, the game has overtime DNA all over it. In fact, these two teams held college football’s highest scoring tie at 48 between 1979-1992. SJSU is just a two-point underdog.
